Terms of Service

1. About Platelist and these terms
Platelist is an app for rating individual dishes at restaurants in the Twin Cities, run by DJM Creative ("Platelist", "we", "us"). These terms apply to the Platelist app and website.
By creating an account or using Platelist, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use Platelist.
2. Who can use Platelist
You must be 13 or older to create an account. If you're under 18, you need a parent's or guardian's permission.
Anyone can browse rankings without an account. Rating dishes, adding dishes or restaurants, making lists, and following people require one.
- You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email, or with your Google or Apple account.
- Choose a username and display name. You can't impersonate another person or business.
- One person per account. You're responsible for what happens on your account, so keep access to your email and sign-in accounts secure.
3. Your content
You own what you post: ratings, notes, photos, lists, and your profile. To run Platelist, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, display, copy, and share that content within Platelist and in links people share from it. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies other people already saved or shared and short-lived backups.
What others can see:
- Everyone, even without an account: your username, display name, profile photo, ratings, notes, dish photos, and lists.
- Signed-in members: also your Want to try list and who you follow.
Only post photos you took or have permission to use. Dishes and restaurants you add become part of Platelist's shared catalog and stay after you delete your account, without your name.
4. Content rules
Rate dishes you actually ate, and keep notes about the food. Don't post:
- Slurs, hate, threats, harassment, or bullying
- Sexual or violent content, or anything illegal
- Spam, ads, or links promoting a business
- Off-topic notes that aren't about the dish
- Fake ratings, including rating your own restaurant or a competitor's, or ratings you were paid or rewarded for
- Fake or duplicate dishes and restaurants
- Other people's private information, or photos of people who didn't agree to be shown
- Anything that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, or other rights
Usernames and display names follow the same rules. Platelist blocks some offensive and reserved names automatically.
Don't misuse the service: no scraping, automated accounts, attempts to get around limits or blocks, or interfering with how Platelist works.
5. Reporting, blocking, and moderation
You can report any dish, note, photo, list, restaurant, or profile, and block anyone from their profile. When you block someone, you stop seeing their ratings, notes, lists, and profile, and neither of you follows the other.
We review reports and may, at our discretion and without notice:
- Remove content or dishes and restaurants
- Merge duplicate dishes or restaurants, moving their ratings together
- Change a username or display name that breaks these rules
- Limit how much an account can add, or suspend or close accounts that break these terms
Platelist limits how many dishes, ratings, restaurants, and reports one account can add per hour, to prevent spam.
6. Restaurant information
Restaurant names, addresses, and locations come from open data published by the Overture Maps Foundation under the CDLA-Permissive-2.0 license, refreshed monthly, plus restaurants added by members. This information can be out of date or wrong. Check with the restaurant before you go.
Platelist isn't affiliated with, endorsed by, or paid by any restaurant listed in it. Dish names and restaurant names belong to their owners.
7. Ratings are opinions
Ratings, notes, rankings, and lists are members' personal opinions, not statements of fact by Platelist. Rankings come from a formula that weighs each dish's ratings against how many it has, and they change as people rate.
Food safety: Platelist doesn't know what's in any dish. If you have allergies or dietary needs, ask the restaurant. Don't rely on Platelist for health or safety decisions.
Location: if you allow it, Platelist uses your location while you're using the app to list nearby restaurants and center the map. You can turn it off in your phone's settings and still use Platelist.
8. Deleting your account
You can delete your account any time from Profile → Delete account. This permanently deletes your profile, ratings, notes, photos, lists, Want to try list, and follows. Dishes and restaurants you added stay, without your name.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or stop offering Platelist, with notice where practical. Sections 3 (for content already shared), 7, and 9 continue after an account ends.
9. Legal terms
No warranty. Platelist is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't promise it will be accurate, uninterrupted, or error-free.
Limit of liability. To the extent the law allows, Platelist isn't liable for indirect or consequential damages, or for anything members post, and our total liability is limited to $100.
Your responsibility. You agree to cover claims against Platelist caused by content you post or by breaking these terms.
Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, and disputes go to the state or federal courts in Hennepin County, Minnesota.
Changes. We'll post updated terms in the app and on getplatelist.com, and tell you in the app about important changes. Using Platelist after a change means you accept it.
