Platelist is run by DJM Creative. Questions: dakota@djm-creative.com.
What Platelist collects
Platelist collects only what it needs to run: your account, what you post, and the technical records our providers keep. It doesn't use ads or third-party analytics trackers.
| Data | Where it comes from | Why we use it |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | You, or Google or Apple if you sign in with them | Sending sign-in codes and linking your account. Never shown to others. |
| Google or Apple name, email, and profile picture link | Google or Apple, only if you sign in with them | Creating your account. Others see only the username and display name you choose. |
| Username, display name, profile photo | You | Your profile |
| Ratings, notes, dish photos, and when you posted them | You | Rankings, feeds, dish pages, and your journal |
| Dishes and restaurants you add | You | The shared catalog everyone rates from |
| Lists, Want to try, and who you follow | You | Lists and your Friends feed |
| Reports and blocks | You | Moderation, and hiding people you blocked |
| Location | Your phone, only if you allow it | Listing nearby restaurants and centering the map (see Location) |
| IP address, device and app details, request times | Recorded automatically by our providers | Security, preventing abuse, and fixing problems |
What other people can see
Platelist is a public place to share what you eat.
- Anyone, even without an account: your username, display name, profile photo, ratings, notes, dish photos, and lists.
- Signed-in members: also your Want to try list and who you follow.
- Only you: your email address, your blocks, and the reports you send. Reports go to Platelist's admin, not to the person reported.
- People you block can still see your public content, but you won't see theirs.
Location
Platelist asks for your location only while you're using the app, and only after explaining why. It's used for two things: listing the restaurants nearest you when you tap the plus button, and centering the map on you.
Your location is sent to our server to find nearby restaurants, rounded to about 10 meters, and isn't saved to your account or shown to anyone. You can turn location off in your phone's settings and still search restaurants by name.
Who handles data for us
Platelist doesn't sell your data or share it for advertising. These companies process it only to run Platelist:
| Company | What it does for Platelist | Data it handles |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in, and photo storage, hosted in the United States (Virginia) | Everything in the table above |
| Resend | Sends sign-in code emails | Your email address |
| Google sign-in, if you choose it; maps on Android | Your Google account basics; the map area you view | |
| Apple | Apple sign-in, if you choose it; maps on iPhone | Your Apple sign-in basics; the map area you view |
| Expo | Building and updating the app | App and device details |
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of Platelist, with notice to you.
Platelist's use of information from Google sign-in follows the Google API Services User Data Policy.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and content until you delete them. Delete your account any time in Profile → Delete account. That permanently deletes your profile, email, ratings, notes, photos, lists, Want to try list, follows, blocks, and reports, right away.
Dishes and restaurants you added stay in the shared catalog without your name. Copies may remain briefly in our providers' backups and logs before they're overwritten.
Your choices and rights
- Change or remove content: edit or remove your ratings and notes, delete lists, and change your photo in the app.
- Delete everything: Profile → Delete account.
- Location, camera, and photos: allow or turn them off any time in your phone's settings.
- Access or correct your data: email dakota@djm-creative.com. Depending on where you live, you may have more rights, such as getting a copy of your data. We'll answer within 45 days.
Children. Platelist isn't for children under 13. If we learn a child under 13 made an account, we'll delete it. Parents can contact us at dakota@djm-creative.com.
Security. Data is encrypted in transit, and access to the database is limited by account. No system is perfectly secure, so use a secure email account.
Changes. We'll post updates here and tell you in the app about important changes.
